Olivia Dean

Olivia Dean is an English singer-songwriter working in a soul, R&B and pop idiom, born Olivia Lauryn Dean on March 14, 1999, in the London borough of Haringey and raised in Highams Park. Her mother, a barrister of Jamaican and Guyanese descent, named her after Lauryn Hill and raised her on Jill Scott and Hill's records, while her father's side of the household leaned toward Carole King and Al Green. At fifteen she won a place at the BRIT School in Croydon, where she started in musical theatre before turning to songwriting in her final years. A self-released single in 2018 drew millions of streams and led to a recording contract with Virgin EMI in 2019, after which she built an audience through a run of EPs. Her debut album Messy, released on June 30, 2023, reached number four on the UK Albums Chart, was certified gold by the BPI and was shortlisted for that year's Mercury Prize, which went to Ezra Collective. Her second album, The Art of Loving, followed in 2025 and topped the UK Albums Chart, led by the number one single Man I Need; at its peak she became the first female solo artist to hold four singles in the UK Top 10 at the same time. She won four Brit Awards in February 2026 and the Grammy Award for Best New Artist the same month. Her live show has grown from club rooms to arenas, with a North American run that closed to a sold-out house at the Roxy in Los Angeles giving way to larger halls, including a date at Austin's Moody Center.
