Old Sound

Old Sound is a Kansas City-based acoustic folk trio made up of Grady Keller on vocals and acoustic guitar, Chad Brothers on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Greg Herrenbruck on upright bass and vocals. Brothers and Herrenbruck share roots in Winfield, Kansas, where they developed as players in the picking circles and campground sessions that surround the Walnut Valley Festival, and the three have worked together as longtime friends and collaborators. The group builds original and traditional bluegrass-influenced material around three-part harmony, storytelling songs and exploratory flatpicking. It has released three records: Rain Follows The Plow (2014), produced by Phil Wade of The Wilders; An Old Sound Christmas (2017); and Deluge (2020), which applies the trio's traditional acoustic approach to contemporary subject matter. Old Sound works steadily across the Kansas City metro and eastern Kansas, playing long sets, often around three hours, at breweries, listening rooms and regional festivals, including the Boulevard Brewing Beer Hall in Kansas City, Stockyards Brewing in Overland Park, Tall Trellis Brew Co. in Olathe and the Replay Lounge in Lawrence, and it has held seasonal residencies at Worlds of Fun's WinterFest.
