Never Kennezard
Never Kenezzard, billed on some venue calendars as Never Kennezard, is a Denver, Colorado band playing psychedelic sludge and progressive metal, with material also tagged as stoner metal, post-hardcore and thrash. The group is built around Ryan Peru, who handles guitar, vocals and electronics and has also played saz, piano and synthesizer on record, alongside drummer, percussionist and screamer Jason Starkey. Steven McGraw played bass and sang harmonies on the debut; Don White has held the bass position since. That debut, Never Say..., was released November 15, 2016, recorded and mixed by Jamie Hillier at Module Overload Studios and mastered by Peru at his own Hibernation Studios. The second full-length, The Long and Grinding Road, followed on November 20, 2021 through Narcoleptica Productions, which remains the band's label. Its nine songs run close to an hour and were tracked between 2020 and 2021 at The Decibel Garden Studios and The Kingdom of Scotchy, engineered by Eric Ryan and mastered by Mark Fuller, with a didgeridoo part by Angie Pierce on one track. The singles Gravity and Ra / Genie sit between the albums. Almost Alive arrived October 25, 2025 in digital and limited black vinyl editions, five tracks running from the two-and-a-half-minute opener Through The Windshield to the eight-minute closer The Grobe / I'm Stoned. The records lean on long-form arrangements, heavy riffing and theatrical, high-register vocals rather than conventional verse-chorus structure.
