Nate Smith is a jazz drummer, composer and bandleader from Chesapeake, Virginia. He came up in Dave Holland's quintet and has recorded and toured with Chris Potter, Betty Carter and Brittany Howard, and leads the band Kinfolk, whose debut Kinfolk: Postcards from Everywhere appeared on Ropeadope in 2017. His 2025 album Live-Action won two Grammy Awards, for Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals.
