Midnight North is a Bay Area americana and roots band formed in 2012 by singer-songwriters Grahame Lesh and Elliott Peck, who share lead vocals and guitars. Bassist Connor O'Sullivan joined early on, drummer and banjo player Nathan Graham completed the rhythm section in 2016, and the group now works as a five-piece with TJ Kanczuzewski on piano and B3 organ. The band developed around Terrapin Crossroads, the Lesh family's venue in San Rafael, California, where it built an audience before touring nationally; Grahame Lesh also performs with the Terrapin Family Band and with Phil Lesh & Friends. Its records include Under the Lights (2017), the album that broadened its reach beyond Northern California, and Diamonds in the Zodiac (November 2023), issued on vinyl, CD and digital. The band describes its aim as carrying American roots music from one generation to the next, with the songs and the surrounding community as the pillars holding it up. A live album, Might Be in the Sunrise, documents a November 30, 2024 show at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco and reached streaming services the following March; the band framed it as a return to the stage after a year of heavy loss and serious illness that kept it mostly off the road, and the recording includes guest turns from trombonist Natalie Cressman, guitarist and pedal steel player Dan 'Lebo' Lebowitz, saxophonist Raffi Garabedian and percussionist Jon Payne. On stage the group mixes originals with covers and extended improvisation, drawing on country rock, folk and rock; it has also recorded at Levon Helm Studios.
