Me Like Bees

indie rock · alternative rock

Me Like Bees is an indie and alternative rock band from Joplin, Missouri. It was started in 2009 by guitarist Pete Burton and singer-guitarist Luke Sheafer, who had played high school football together in Kansas, lost touch, and then found themselves in the same southwest Missouri college town; the name comes from a line in Psalm 118. The two remain the band's only constants through several lineup changes, and built a danceable, guitar-driven sound out of a shared attachment to 2000s indie rock, naming The Strokes, Modest Mouse, The White Stripes and Franz Ferdinand as touchstones. Jake Bennett joined on bass in 2017, having previously worked as the band's touring merchandise manager; the most recent addition the band names is drummer Ben Davis, a former elementary school counselor. Their debut full-length, The Ides, was released through Loveway Records in July 2013 and includes Naked Trees, a single written in response to the 2011 Joplin tornado. In 2014 the band took first prize at the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands in Hollywood, California, and with it a slot on the Vans Warped Tour. They worked with Goldfinger frontman and producer John Feldmann on the four-track EP There Will Be Time, released in April 2016, and in 2018 partnered with Image Comics and the artist Jeremy Haun on Songs From The Realm, an EP inspired by Haun's graphic novel. Later singles include Bedlam and Feel the Heat in 2018, RUN at the end of that year and Heartbeats in 2019. Their most recent release is Bless My Bones.
