Mastodon is an American heavy metal band formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 2000 by drummer Brann Dailor, guitarist Bill Kelliher, bassist Troy Sanders and guitarist Brent Hinds. Their music spans progressive, sludge and stoner metal across nine studio albums, including Remission, the Moby-Dick concept record Leviathan, The Hunter and Emperor of Sand, whose opening track Sultan's Curse won the band a 2018 Grammy for Best Metal Performance. Hinds left the band in March 2025 and died in August 2025.
