Mary Chapin Carpenter is an American country and folk singer-songwriter, born in Princeton, New Jersey in 1958 and raised in part in Washington, D.C., where she came up through the local folk scene. Signed to Columbia Records in the late 1980s, she broke through with the 1992 album Come On Come On and has won five Grammy Awards.
