Martin Gilmore Trio

The Martin Gilmore Trio is an Americana group from Denver, Colorado, led by guitarist and songwriter Martin Gilmore with Nick Amodeo on mandolin and Ian Haegele on bass. Its acoustic bluegrass and folk core takes in jazz, swing, country and blues, and the repertoire mixes traditional material and reworked standards with Gilmore's own writing. Gilmore released a self-titled solo album in 2009, produced by Travis Book of the Infamous Stringdusters, and the East-West EP in 2017, recorded in Cairo during the two years he lived in Egypt. The trio's own album, The Martin Gilmore Trio, followed in 2021, the same year the group played an official showcase at the IBMA World of Bluegrass conference. The trio has toured the United States and Ireland, and more recent work includes The Last Ride of an Old Cowhand. Gilmore won the New Folk competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 2025 and took both the Telluride Troubadour contest and the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival songwriter showcase in 2024; he has also performed with the Infamous Stringdusters, Stephen Stills and Judy Collins. Teaching is a substantial part of his work: he has taught at Swallow Hill Music in Denver since 2008 and joined the folk and bluegrass faculty at the University of Northern Colorado in 2017, teaching guitar, singing and composition and directing student ensembles, and he has taught in the University of Denver's enrichment program. He was nominated for an IBMA Momentum Award for mentorship in 2025. The trio plays Colorado rooms including the Gold Hill Inn above Boulder.
