Margo Price is an American country singer-songwriter based in Nashville. Born Margo Rae Price on April 15, 1983 in Aledo, Illinois, she studied dance and theater at Northern Illinois University before dropping out and moving to Nashville at twenty, where she waited tables and taught dance at a YMCA while working through a string of bands: Buffalo Clover, the explicitly political Secret Handshake, and Margo and the Pricetags. She married guitarist and songwriter Jeremy Ivey, a longtime collaborator. Her debut solo album, Midwest Farmer's Daughter, was cut in three days at Sun Studio in Memphis and released by Jack White's Third Man Records in 2016; it led to appearances on Saturday Night Live and Later... with Jools Holland and, in 2019, a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. All American Made followed in 2017. That's How Rumors Get Started (2020) marked a move to Loma Vista Recordings and was produced by Sturgill Simpson with David Ferguson and Price, recorded at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles and pushing further into rock. Strays (2023), produced by Price and Jonathan Wilson at Fivestar Studio in Topanga Canyon, leaned psychedelic; Hard Headed Woman, released August 29, 2025, deliberately turned back toward classic country and was the first album she made entirely in Nashville. She has described her approach as feral and free, and her writing takes in parenting, friendship, grief and economic precarity. Price published a memoir, Maybe We'll Make It, in 2022, joined the board of Farm Aid in 2021, and is an outspoken advocate on women's rights, gun violence prevention and migrant farmworker issues. Her live shows lean hard on a road band and frequently include covers and long, loose codas rather than a fixed set.
