Luna Sol
Luna Sol is a Denver, Colorado stoner rock band formed in 2012 and led by singer and lead guitarist David Angstrom, previously of the desert rock group Hermano, the Kentucky band Supafuzz, Black Cat Bone and Asylum on the Hill. The current lineup pairs Angstrom with Zeth Pedulla on drums and Jason Groves on bass; Groves had already worked with the band as the engineer who mixed and mastered its earlier records before joining as a player. The band describes its own sound as high mountain stoner blues rock, drawing High Desert, Appalachian and Colorado influences into heavy fuzz-toned riffs, Southern groove and hard rock structure with introspective lyrics. Three albums have been released: Blood Moon in 2015, issued independently; Below the Deep in 2019 on Slush Fund Recordings; and Vita Mors in 2024 on the heavy rock label Ripple Music, which has also issued it on limited-edition vinyl and CD. An EP and a further full-length are tentatively planned for 2027, again on Ripple. Hermano, in which Angstrom played guitar alongside Kyuss singer John Garcia, is the clearest line connecting Luna Sol to the wider desert rock lineage the Colorado band reworks in a mountain setting, and through Angstrom's history the group's orbit takes in players associated with Supafuzz, Disengage, Black Stone Cherry, Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age. Luna Sol tours regionally and nationally around its releases, appearing at label-run events including RippleFest Texas in Austin and playing Denver rooms such as Bar 404. Live, the trio format keeps the arrangements built around Angstrom's guitar tone and vocal rather than layered studio texture.
