LP is the stage name of Laura Pergolizzi, an American singer-songwriter born in 1981 in Huntington Station, New York and later based in Brooklyn, working in pop rock and alternative rock. A whistled hook has become a signature of the recordings. LP first released records under the name in the early 2000s, with Heart-Shaped Scar on Koch in 2001 and Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol in 2004, then spent several years working mainly as a songwriter for other artists, co-writing Cheers (Drink to That) for Rihanna's 2010 album Loud and contributing songs recorded by Christina Aguilera, Cher Lloyd, the Backstreet Boys and Celine Dion. A return to releasing under the LP name produced the live EP Into the Wild: Live at EastWest Studios in 2012 and the album Forever for Now on Warner Bros. in 2014. The 2015 single Lost on You became the international breakthrough, reaching number one in Belgium, the Czech Republic and France and earning platinum certifications in several countries; it anchored the 2016 album of the same name on Vagrant. Later albums are Heart to Mouth in 2018, Churches on PIAS in 2021 and Love Lines in September 2023. Other charting singles include the 2017 duet N'oublie pas with Mylene Farmer, a number one in France, and Girls Go Wild in 2018. LP won the Zebrik award for Best International Female in 2020. An eighth studio album, Room 12, is scheduled for release on 2 September 2026, preceded by the single Shelly in April of that year, and is supported by the All Is Not Lost Tour, which also marks ten years of Lost on You. LP is openly lesbian and has used they/them pronouns since 2021.
