Lizzy & The Triggermen

Lizzy and the Triggermen is a ten-piece Los Angeles swing and big band ensemble fronted by vocalist and songwriter Lizzy Shapiro. Shapiro is also a screenwriter and actress whose television comedy work for HBO, Amazon, Legendary, CBS and the History Channel has drawn multiple Emmy nominations, and that comic instinct carries into her lyrics; her singing voice was trained in opera. She writes much of the band's original material, which is then arranged by trombonist Dan Barrett, a veteran who played lead trombone in Benny Goodman's orchestra and serves as bandleader. The lineup is deliberately multi-generational and has included Sam Rocha on bass, Chris Dawson on piano, Benedikt Brydern on violin, Luca Pino on guitar and Jim Jedeikin on tenor and baritone saxophone and clarinet, with players whose credits reach back to Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr. The repertoire mixes those originals with vintage material, showtunes and jazz standards, drawing on Duke Ellington and Count Basie alongside bebop, Broadway and R&B, and the group presents it as jazz-age instrumentation put to contemporary songwriting rather than as a nostalgia act. Their debut record, Good Songs for Bad Times, reached No. 3 on the iTunes jazz chart, and a twenty-three-song concert recording, Lizzy and the Triggermen: Live at Joe's Pub, was released on August 14, 2025 from a New York date earlier that year. They have played the Tucson Jazz Festival, SXSW and Modernism Week, where they shared billing with Samara Joy and Nancy Sinatra, toured with Squeeze, and sold out the Troubadour in Los Angeles, the Chapel in San Francisco and City Winery in Boston. NPR has described Shapiro as part Eartha Kitt, part Ella Fitzgerald and part Amy Winehouse.
