lighthearted

lighthearted is an indie-folk band from Athens, Georgia, formed in 2019 and fronted by identical twin sisters Gracie Huffman and Eliza Lemmon. The sisters have played music together since childhood and assembled the rest of the group through the Athens scene after attending the University of Georgia; the band works as a quintet, with Huffman and Lemmon on acoustic guitars and vocals alongside Win Cawthorne on electric guitar, Aidan Hill on bass and Toni Hunlo on drums. The group released the EP Asking for a Friend in 2020, recorded with producer Andrew Blooms, whose lead single This Old Car has passed two million Spotify streams and remains its most-played track. The debut album from here on out followed in 2023, produced by Tommy Trautwein of We Bought a Zoo Records. Huffman wrote most of that record and describes it as a metaphorical account of self-realization worked out through nature imagery; the title track, written by bassist Aidan Hill, was added to Spotify's Fresh Finds playlists and to Fresh Finds: Class of 2023. Their brother Miller Huffman plays on the track Harvester, and the cover art for the album and its singles is drawn from the twins' mother's 1988 high school art portfolio, rediscovered during the pandemic. A second album, we all live on borrowed time, arrived on June 27, 2025, pressed to vinyl through Echo Base in Athens and launched with a hometown release show; its songs turn on parting, both from other people and from earlier versions of oneself. lighthearted cites classic folk songwriters and contemporary indie-folk acts as reference points, and has toured nationally as a headliner and in support of Johnnyswim, Sarah Kinsley and Hans Williams.
