KRS-One, born Lawrence Parker, is an American rapper who was born in Brooklyn, New York, and came up in the South Bronx. He rose to prominence with Boogie Down Productions, the group he formed in the Bronx with DJ Scott La Rock in the mid-1980s and whose debut album was Criminal Minded, and has released records under his own name since 1993. He founded the Stop the Violence Movement and is known for songs including Sound of da Police and My Philosophy.
