John Scofield\'s Electrospective

Electrospective is a touring project of American jazz guitarist John Scofield that revisits the electric, groove-oriented corners of his catalogue, drawing on material from his Blue Matter, A Go Go and Uberjam bands alongside new groove-forward writing. The quartet is Scofield on guitar, Larry Goldings on organ, Oteil Burbridge on bass and Adam Deitch on drums. Goldings and Deitch have both toured and recorded with Scofield for years; Burbridge is the newcomer to his music, best known for the Allman Brothers Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Dead & Company. Scofield has said the aim is to rework the compositions rather than reproduce the recordings, and each set includes unreleased material. The first run of dates opened on 14 October with two nights at the Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati, reached both coasts, and closed on 21 November in Greensboro, North Carolina. Scofield was born 26 December 1951 in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Wilton, Connecticut. He studied at Berklee College of Music, left to record with Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan, joined the Billy Cobham and George Duke band, worked with Charles Mingus in 1976 and replaced Pat Metheny in Gary Burton's quartet. In 1982 he joined Miles Davis, staying three and a half years and contributing guitar and compositions to Star People, Decoy and You're Under Arrest. He has since recorded with Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Herbie Hancock, Bill Frisell, Jaco Pastorius and Medeski, Martin and Wood, and his own records range from the funk of Blue Matter and Hand Jive to the loop-driven Uberjam. He has won three Grammy Awards: Best Jazz Instrumental Album for Past Present and for Country for Old Men, and Best Improvised Jazz Solo for I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry.
