John Craigie

John Craigie is a folk and Americana singer-songwriter based in Portland, Oregon. Born in Los Angeles in 1980, he studied mathematics at UC Santa Cruz and has been touring since 2003, building a reputation for shows that thread comedic monologue and audience banter between the songs, a mix that has drawn comparisons to John Prine, Ramblin' Jack Elliott and the comedian Mitch Hedberg. His studio albums, issued on his own Zabriskie Point Records, run from Montana Tale (2009) and October Is the Kindest Month (2011) through The Apocalypse Is Over (2013), Working On My Farewell (2015), No Rain, No Rose (2017), Scarecrow (2018), Asterisk the Universe (2020), Mermaid Salt (2022) and Pagan Church (2024) to I Swam Here (2026). No Rain, No Rose was recorded in the living room of his Portland house and features Gregory Alan Isakov and the Shook Twins. Pagan Church was made with the Portland band TK & The Holy Know-Nothings and spent six weeks at number one on the Americana albums chart. I Swam Here was cut largely in New Orleans in January 2025 with local players assembled by Sam Doores of The Deslondes, plus sessions in Astoria, Oregon, and features songwriter Anna Moss on nearly every track. His live records include Capricorn in Retrograde... Just Kidding... Live in Portland (2016), Opening for Steinbeck (2017) and Greatest Hits... Just Kidding... Live - No Hits (2024). Craigie has toured the United States, Europe and Australia, played Newport Folk Festival and Pickathon, and shared stages with Jack Johnson, Todd Snider, James McMurtry, Shawn Colvin, the Avett Brothers and Trampled by Turtles. His annual #KeepItWarm tour donates proceeds to regional nonprofits working on food insecurity, and his river trips have become recurring fan gatherings.
