Joanne Shaw Taylor is a British blues-rock guitarist and singer, born in February 1985 in Wednesbury, West Midlands and raised in Solihull. She found the blues in her early teens through Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins and Jimi Hendrix, and at fifteen bought the modified 1966 Fender Esquire she nicknamed Junior from a London shop. At sixteen she was discovered by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, who recruited her into his supergroup D.U.P. for a European tour in 2002. Her debut White Sugar appeared on Ruf Records in 2009, followed by Diamonds in the Dirt in 2010; both reached number eight on the Billboard blues albums chart. Almost Always Never came in 2012, The Dirty Truth in 2014 with Jim Gaines producing in Memphis, and Wild in 2016, her first UK top twenty album. She signed to Sony's Silvertone imprint and released Reckless Heart in 2019. The Blues Album, made with Joe Bonamassa for his Keeping the Blues Alive label, was issued in 2021, and was followed by Blues from the Heart: Live and Nobody's Fool in 2022, Heavy Soul in 2024 and Black and Gold in 2025. A further album, The Trouble With Love, was produced by Kevin Shirley for Journeyman Records, its title track featuring Bonamassa. She was named best female vocalist at the British Blues Awards in 2010 and 2011 and songwriter of the year in 2011 for Same as It Never Was, played lead guitar at Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace in June 2012, performed with Annie Lennox's band, supported Foreigner in the UK in 2018 and cut a duet with Orianthi. She plays Fender Telecasters and a Gibson Les Paul tuned to E flat, and tours the United States heavily.
