Jennifer Hartswick is an American trumpeter and vocalist from Sheffield, Vermont, who grew up on several hundred acres of family farmland in the state's Northeast Kingdom. She has been a member of the Trey Anastasio Band since around 2000, one of the longest-serving players in a group that has cycled between trio and ten-piece configurations since its late-1990s beginnings, and whose current lineup pairs her trumpet with Natalie Cressman on trombone and Kenneth Whalum on saxophone alongside Anastasio, drummer Russ Lawton, keyboardist Ray Paczkowski, percussionist Cyro Baptista and bassist Dezron Douglas. She appears on Anastasio releases including Trey Anastasio in 2002, The Horseshoe Curve in 2007, Traveler in 2012 and Paper Wheels in 2015, and has performed with Phish, Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, Tom Petty, Aaron Neville, Carlos Santana, The Rolling Stones, Big Gigantic and Dave Matthews. Under her own name she released Something in the Water in September 2022 through Christian McBride's Brother Mister Productions imprint on Mack Avenue, a nine-song record of original writing that sets her voice against jazz, blues and Americana arrangements with New Orleans-inflected horns. McBride plays bass on it, the guitarist and singer Nicholas Cassarino produced and played, and Shira Elias sings. On stage she alternates between trumpet and lead vocals within the same song, and her sets lean on improvised interplay with whoever she is sharing a stage with rather than a fixed arrangement, which is why she turns up regularly as a guest across the jam-band circuit and at Denver rooms such as Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom.
