Jeffrey Foucault is an American singer-songwriter and record producer, born 26 January 1976 in Whitewater, Wisconsin and now living in New England with his wife, the songwriter Kris Delmhorst. He plays acoustic and electric guitar and writes across folk, blues, country and rock and roll, and has toured the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe continuously since 2001, in solo, duo and full-band settings. His albums begin with Miles from the Lightning in 2001 and continue through Stripping Cane in 2004, Ghost Repeater in 2006, Horse Latitudes in 2011, Salt as Wolves in 2015, Blood Brothers in 2018 and the odds-and-ends collection Deadstock: Uncollected Recordings 2005-2020 in 2020. Salt as Wolves was self-released on his BlueBlade imprint and entered the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart at number seven; most of his other records appear on the western Massachusetts label Signature Sounds. He has also worked repeatedly outside his own name: Redbird with Peter Mulvey and Kris Delmhorst in 2005, Seven Curses with Mark Erelli in 2010, an album of John Prine songs called Shoot the Moon Right Between the Eyes in 2009, and two Cold Satellite records in 2010 and 2013 setting the poems of Lisa Olstein. From 2013 through 2020 he performed as a duo with the drummer Billy Conway, formerly of Morphine and Treat Her Right. Conway's death in 2021 shapes The Universal Fire, released in September 2024, his first set of entirely new material since 2018; it was cut live in a single session with players drawn from Calexico and Bon Iver and turns on mortality, legacy and what survives a fire. His long-standing collaborators include the pedal steel player Eric Heywood, the producer and guitarist Bo Ramsey and the arranger Van Dyke Parks, and he has produced records for Hayward Williams, Caitlin Canty and John Statz.
