Honey Hounds is a blues, funk and rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, based in the Atlantic Beach area. Guitarist and singer Nick Izzard, who started on guitar at nine and was playing professionally at fifteen, began working with drummer Tyler Watts in the mid-2010s; the two had relocated from Ocala and wrote their first record while living on a sailboat in the Florida Keys. Hometown friend Nathan Ranew persuaded them to move to Jacksonville and joined on bass, and the trio, which had been performing as N.W. Izzard, took the Honey Hounds name in 2018. Keyboardist Max Zargon completed the current quartet: Izzard on guitar and vocals, Ranew on bass and vocals, Watts on drums and Zargon on keys. Izzard describes the sound as funkadelic blues rock with a pinch of pop sensibility and cites Albert King, Amy Winehouse, Chris Isaak and Josh Homme; the records fold funk, soul and pop into a delta blues foundation, and the band has been noted for a deliberately vintage look and presentation. The discography runs from the debut album No Sleep in 2016 through the EP Midnight Magic in 2017 and the album The Flame in 2019, alongside singles including Spinach, which has drawn more than two million streams, Bring It Back and Casanovacaine in 2024, plus a Sugarshack Sessions EP. Honey Hounds has toured nationally, performed in Europe and hosts its own Honey Island festival in Atlantic Beach, and its regional touring reaches beyond the Southeast to rooms such as Cervantes' Other Side in Denver.
