honestav

honestav is the stage name of Avrey Freeman, an American singer, rapper and songwriter born in 1998 in Pierce City, Missouri, whose music blends alternative rock, indie folk and hip-hop. The youngest of eight siblings, he began writing poetry at eight and wrote his first song at twelve, started posting to SoundCloud as a teenager, and moved to the wider streaming platforms in 2021. He has spoken publicly about a childhood marked by poverty and family addiction, and about losing his older brother, whose local gigs had been his first exposure to performing, to suicide. He broke through in 2024 with the single I'd Rather Overdose, written after his father also died by suicide that January; the song charted on Billboard and built him an audience largely through streaming and short-form video. The EP hara-kiri followed on November 8, 2024 through Rebel Music in partnership with gamma, and was reissued in an expanded deluxe edition in May 2025. He released the single Wasted in November 2025 and his second full-length, Sweet American Boy, on June 19, 2026, a sixteen-track record that includes Crash First, a collaboration with mgk. Freeman cites Kurt Cobain, Green Day, Blink-182, XXXTentacion, Mac Miller, Sleepy Hallow and Noah Kahan as influences, and his songs typically pair confessional, grief-centred writing with an acoustic-guitar core and rap phrasing. He toured North America in 2024 supporting Mod Sun and lovelytheband, played the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October 2025, and joined mgk's Lost Americana Tour for its Australian and New Zealand dates before announcing a headlining Sweet American Boy Tour returning to Australia in January 2027.
