High Lonesome

High Lonesome is a five-piece bluegrass band from Colorado's Front Range, based in Longmont and led by singer and songwriter Chuck Sitero. The group actually began in Georgia in 2018 and relocated during the pandemic, after Sitero and his wife Lily, who had been working in film and television production, decided following a camping trip to settle in Colorado permanently; Sitero has said the state's audience and scene offered opportunities Georgia did not. The lineup pairs Sitero on guitar and lead vocals with Dylan Kober on dobro, Neva Wilder on fiddle and vocals, Joshua Bergman on mandolin and vocals and Liz Patton on upright bass. Sitero calls what they play bluegrass-ish rather than traditional bluegrass, and sets combine his and Bergman's originals with jazz-inflected instrumentals and public-domain fiddle tunes, held to hard-driving tempos and tight harmony singing while taking in folk, rock, blues and jam influences. The self-titled debut album, produced by Kober and recorded at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, was issued in 2024 on CD, vinyl and streaming services, and was named Best Bluegrass Album in Westword's 2025 Best of Denver awards; the paper also placed the band on its Ten of the Top Colorado Bluegrass Bands lists in both 2024 and 2025. Colorado music writer John Lehndorff described the record as bristling with vocal, instrumental and songwriting talent. The band released the single California Cottonfields in April 2026 and has been working on follow-up material. Its live shows are pitched as danceable and up-tempo, and it plays widely on the Colorado circuit, including the Tuft Theatre at Swallow Hill Music in Denver, alongside festival and campground dates farther afield.
