High Fidelity
bluegrass
High Fidelity is a traditional bluegrass band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in early 2014 and built around the husband-and-wife pairing of guitarist and lead singer Jeremy Stephens and fiddler Corrina Rose Logston Stephens, who sings first harmony. The lineup is completed by Kurt Stephenson on banjo and second harmony, Daniel Amick on mandolin and Vickie Vaughn on bass. Within weeks of forming, the group took first place in the International Band Championship at the fortieth annual SPBGMA Awards in February 2014. Its repertoire is drawn from the classic era of the music and leans on records that are rarely revived, with Don Reno and Red Smiley, the Stanley Brothers, the Louvin Brothers, and Jim and Jesse among the primary sources, alongside originals written to sit inside that older sound. Stephens is a specialist in Don Reno's banjo style and has worked with the gospel group the Chuck Wagon Gang, appeared on Ray Stevens' Nashville television program, and played banjo and sung with Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys. Logston has played with David Peterson & 1946, Chris Henry and the Hardcore Grass, Jim Lauderdale and also with McReynolds. Stephenson was the 2010 National Bluegrass Banjo Champion at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. High Fidelity records for Rebel Records, the label that issued Hills and Home (2018), Banjo Player's Blues (2020) and the gospel album Music in My Soul (2023). That record was preceded by the single The Mighty Name of Jesus, written by Logston and sung as a duet with Stephens, which she wrote during a period of unexplained health problems. The band works festivals, theaters and traditional-bluegrass events across the United States.
