Herbie Hancock is an American jazz pianist, keyboardist, composer and bandleader born in Chicago in 1940. He came to prominence in Miles Davis's second great quintet in the 1960s and later led the funk-fusion group The Headhunters, recording albums including Head Hunters, Future Shock and River: The Joni Letters. His compositions Watermelon Man, Cantaloupe Island and Maiden Voyage are jazz standards, and he has won 14 Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for the score to Round Midnight.
