Hazlett is the stage name of Mitchell Hazlett Lewis, an Australian indie folk singer-songwriter raised in Brisbane and based in Sweden. He got his start playing covers in Brisbane pubs and worked as a ghostwriter and session bassist before releasing anything under his own name; after a breakup he took up an old friend's offer of an introduction to musicians in Sweden and moved there. The first person he worked with was the Swedish producer Freddy Alexander, also credited as Fredrik Haggstam, and the two have made nearly everything he has released since, Hazlett's folk writing set against Alexander's background in clean Scandinavian pop. He began releasing music in 2017 with the EP Honey, Where Is My Home, and in 2019 the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's triple j Unearthed named him a feature artist. Signed to Nettwerk Records, he has issued the EPs Thundering Hopes (2020), Oh Downhill (2022), Goodbye to the Valley Low (2023) and its companion Side B (2024), along with the studio albums Bloom Mountain (2023) and last night you said you missed me, released September 12, 2025. The second album runs ten tracks and about 36 minutes and is anchored by the singles doing my best, tell me something and mountain of a memory; reviewers have characterized it as stripped-back and acoustic, working through distance, longing and self-preservation. Hazlett has passed 500 million streams, toured North America behind the record, and opened for Noah Kahan at BST Hyde Park in London. His songs favor fingerpicked guitar, layered vocal harmony and restrained arrangements, and their titles are styled in lower case.
