Griffin William Sherry

Griffin William Sherry is a singer-songwriter from Buxton, Maine, best known as a vocalist and guitarist in The Ghost of Paul Revere. That band formed in Portland, Maine in 2011 as a trio of Sherry, Max Davis on banjo, guitar and vocals, and Sean McCarthy on bass and vocals, augmented on the road by harmonica player Matt Young, keyboardist Ben Cosgrove and drummer Chuck Gagne. The group released four studio albums, Believe (2014), Monarch (2017), Good at Losing Everything (2020) and Goodbye (2022), and appeared as musical guest on the TBS talk show Conan in January 2018. Sherry wrote Ballad of the 20th Maine, a song about the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment that was designated the official state ballad of Maine on June 7, 2019. The band split amicably in April 2022, closing with a performance at its own Ghostland Festival, and has announced two reunion shows in Portland for September 2026. Sherry toured with friends from the Maine scene while writing new material, then recorded his solo debut, Hundred Mile Wilderness, in Nashville with producer and engineer Eddie Spear, whose credits include Sierra Ferrell, Brandi Carlile, Cody Jinks and Zach Bryan. Released on September 20, 2024 and cut with Nashville session players, the record trades the string-band textures of his former group for a fuller rock and Americana production, with songs including Reflections, Our Town, Ain't It Amazing and Roll With The Punches. Its title refers to the Hundred Mile Wilderness, the remote final stretch of the Appalachian Trail in northern Maine, which Sherry has described as an ending for northbound hikers and a beginning for him. The songs are written around characters at crossroads and moments of clarity, and he performs them in clubs and listening rooms across the Northeast and beyond.
