Greg Blake is a bluegrass singer and guitarist raised in the mountains of West Virginia and now based in Asheville, North Carolina. He began singing as a small child and asked his grandmother for a guitar at the age of seven so he could accompany himself. After high school he attended Kansas City College and Bible School, and recorded on a dozen albums with Midwestern groups including the Bluegrass Missourians and The Harvest Quartet. In 1991 he was a founding member of the HeartLande Quartet alongside Jeff Lyon, Fred Lynch and Steve Powell, a gospel, country and bluegrass group. He relocated to Colorado in 2007 for ministry work and in 2009 joined Jeff Scroggins and Colorado, the band led by banjo player Jeff Scroggins with mandolinist Tristan Scroggins, remaining through 2019 and turning to music full time in 2015. He later sang lead and played guitar with the long-running Chicago band The Special Consensus, and now leads his own group, Greg Blake and Hometown. Blake was named IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year in 2023 and again in 2025 after a first nomination in 2022, has won SPBGMA Guitarist of the Year five times, and holds the Kansas State Flatpicking Championship. His albums include Songs of the Heart and Home (2015), The View from Home (2022) and People, Places, and Songs (2023) on Turnberry Records. Recent recordings have leaned on collaboration: the single Victim of the Game, Love Found Me with fiddler and singer Becky Buller, Out of Control Raging Fire with Amanda Cook, and a video for Nora McNally featuring Olivia Jo that was submitted for the 2026 IBMA Video of the Year award. His repertoire runs to traditional bluegrass, gospel and country material sung in a plain, unhurried baritone.
