Goose

jam band · indie rock · rock

Goose is an American rock band formed in 2014 in Wilton, Connecticut, by guitarist and singer Rick Mitarotonda, bassist Trevor Weekz and drummer Ben Atkind, who had played together in the earlier group Vasudo; Mitarotonda and Atkind met at Berklee College of Music. Peter Anspach joined in 2017 on keyboards, guitar and vocals, and Cotter Ellis took over on drums in 2024 following Atkind's departure the previous year. The band's name comes from an inside joke dating to Mitarotonda's time working at a taco shop in Colorado. Goose describes its sound as indie groove, folding indie rock, folk, funk and electronic textures into a jam-band framework, and its reputation rests on improvised live sets that differ substantially from night to night. A widely circulated 2019 set at the Peach Music Festival drew national attention, and the 2020 Bingo Tour, eight concerts livestreamed from a Connecticut barn during the pandemic shutdown, expanded the audience further. Studio albums include Moon Cabin (2016), Shenanigans Nite Club (2021), Dripfield (2022), Everything Must Go (2025) and Big Modern! (2026). The band played two nights at Radio City Music Hall in June 2022, with Trey Anastasio of Phish joining the second, and headlined Madison Square Garden for the first time in June 2025 with a four-hour show. It has shared stages with Dead and Company, Dave Matthews Band and Vampire Weekend, and releases most of its concerts through Nugs.net and Bandcamp for an audience that follows the band show to show. Its Colorado dates run to Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Poudre Canyon.
