Godzillionaire

alternative rock · metal · rock

Godzillionaire is a heavy stoner rock band from Lawrence, Kansas, fronted by Mark Hennessy, formerly the singer of the grunge band Paw. The group is completed by Ben White on guitar, synth and vocals, Mike Dye on bass, synth and vocals, and Cody Romaine on drums, and its songs move between heavy riff-driven passages and quieter, story-driven ones. The catalogue began with Small Change in September 2016, followed by the EP the great dEPression in April 2017, Negative Balance in April 2020, 30 Days Same as Cash, Motherfucker in December 2021 and Diminishing Returns in January 2025. The most recent album was released by Ripple Music, which has also reissued Negative Balance. The records have drawn attention well outside the region: Negative Balance placed at number fourteen on New Noise Magazine's staff year-end list and number thirteen with the French publication Guitar Part, while Diminishing Returns was ranked the fifth best album of 2025 by the aggregator Doom Charts. Classic Rock in the United Kingdom credited the band with having sculpted a sonic beast of its own. Godzillionaire's music was also used in They Come Knocking, an entry in Hulu's Into the Dark series, at the request of director Adam Mason, who has made videos for Alice in Chains and Cradle of Filth. The band works the Kansas and Missouri club circuit, including the Replay Lounge and recordBar in Kansas City.
