Giovannie and the Hired Guns is a country rock band from Stephenville, Texas, fronted by singer and songwriter Giovannie Yanez, who was working the counter of a local pawnshop when the group started. The five-piece is filled out by Carlos Villa on lead guitar, Jerrod Flusche on rhythm guitar, Alex Trejo on bass and Milton Toles on drums, and its music pulls Red Dirt country songwriting through alt-metal, Latin pop and Americana, a mix broad enough that the band has built an audience across the country, rock and alternative formats at once. It self-released the albums Bad Habits in 2017 and a self-titled record in 2020 before signing with Warner Music Nashville through a partnership with Warner Music Latina. The 2021 single Ramon Ayala became its breakout, topping Billboard's Rock Airplay chart and reaching number two on Mainstream Rock and number three on Alternative Songs; Rooster Tattoo and the 2022 single Overrated, which reached number sixteen on Alternative Songs, followed. The album Tejano Punk Boyz arrived in 2022 and a live version in 2023, with Quitter, produced by Johnny K, following in 2025. The group was named Best New Rock and Alternative Artist of the Year at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, and has opened for Jason Aldean in front of roughly 36,000 people at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Its live show is described as frenetic and party-like, leaning on the whole band's energy rather than a single frontman, and drawing crowds that mix country, metal and punk audiences.
