Genevieve Artadi

Genevieve Artadi is an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles, born Genevieve Veronica Artadi on 1 July 1982, best known as half of the electronic jazz-funk duo Knower with Louis Cole. Her parents emigrated from the Philippines and both toured in rock bands, and the family moved every two or three years during her childhood. She took classical piano lessons, came to jazz in seventh grade through Natalie Cole's Unforgettable... with Love, earned a degree in jazz studies at California State University, Northridge, and continued studying at California State University, Long Beach. She first performed as singer, bassist and keyboardist in the Los Angeles electro-pop group Pollyn, formed in 1998, which released the EP Songs for Sale in 2003 and the albums This Little Night, Living in Patterns and Distress Signals. Artadi met Cole in 2009 through saxophonist Robby Marshall; as Knower they posted pop covers online before issuing Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi in 2010, followed by Think Thoughts, Let Go, Life and Knower Forever in 2023. She self-produced and self-released her solo debut, Genevieve Lalala, in 2015. Her second solo record, Dizzy Strange Summer, was taken to Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder label by Cole and released there in July 2020, mixing jazz, pop and trip hop. Forever Forever, her second Brainfeeder album, arrived in March 2023, recorded at El Desierto Studio in Mexico with Cole, guitarist Pedro Martins, keyboardist and singer Chiquita Magic and pianist Chris Fishman; roughly half its material began as big band writing. She has recorded with Snarky Puppy on Family Dinner - Volume 2 and appeared on Thundercat's Satellite for the fifth-season soundtrack of Insecure. Two collaborative albums followed in 2025: Another Leaf, made as composer-in-residence with Sweden's Norrbotten Big Band, and Everything Is Under Control with Real Bad Man.
