Futurebirds are an Athens, Georgia band formed in 2008 by University of Georgia students, playing reverb-heavy country rock and cosmic Americana that also draws on folk rock and neo-psychedelia. The group is built around three songwriters who each sing their own material, Carter King, Thomas Johnson and Daniel Womack, with Brannen Miles on bass and Tom Myers on drums; pedal steel player Dennis Love shaped the band's early sound before leaving. Their debut album Hampton's Lullaby came out in 2010, followed by Baba Yaga in 2013, Hotel Parties in 2015 and Teamwork in 2020, moving across labels including Autumn Tone and Fat Possum. Beginning in 2021 the band worked with Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket on a pair of companion EPs and a live album. Futurebirds signed with Dualtone Records in 2024 and released Easy Company that year, produced by Brad Cook with guest appearances from Katie Crutchfield and Patterson Hood. Cook also produced Far Out Country, the band's first double album, issued in June 2026 and split into a brighter first half and a more inward-looking second; in an unusual sequencing decision the complete record appeared on double vinyl months before the second half reached streaming services. Reviews in No Depression and Americana Highways described it as sprawling and ambitious rather than padded, crediting the three-songwriter format for its variety. The band has toured with Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers and Blitzen Trapper, plays regularly at the Georgia Theatre in its hometown, and appears at festivals including AmericanaFest and Fort Desolation.
