Free Whenever is a Brooklyn, New York band playing improvisation-driven psychedelic groove music that draws on vintage psychedelia, dub reggae, eastern modality and African rhythmic traditions, with conversational bass and guitar melodies layered over Afro-Latin percussion and hip hop-influenced drumming. The group treats long-form improvisation as the organising principle of a set rather than as a solo showcase, and its studio records keep the same open-ended feel. The catalogue includes Jam Junkies, Vol. 1 and Open Air, both from 2021, Jam Junkies, Vol. 2 in 2022, a self-titled album in 2024 and Ascension, a ten-track record released on 24 October 2025 across digital, CD, vinyl and a limited seven-inch pressing. A concert recording, Free Whenever Live at The Pour House, followed in 2026. Day One, Bank Robbery and Jonas the Shaman are among their most-streamed tracks. The band tours widely across North America, playing rooms including Brooklyn Bowl in New York and Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, and has shared bills with Karina Rykman, BALTHVS, TAUK and Christian Kuria.
