Everclear is an alternative rock band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Art Alexakis with bassist Craig Montoya and drummer Scott Cuthbert. Its debut, World of Noise, appeared on the independent Tim/Kerr label in 1993 before the band signed to Capitol Records, where the platinum Sparkle and Fade in 1995 and the double-platinum So Much for the Afterglow in 1997 produced the singles Santa Monica, Father of Mine, Everything to Everyone and I Will Buy You A New Life. The band then issued Songs from an American Movie Vol. One and Vol. Two in 2000 and Slow Motion Daydream in 2003, followed by Welcome to the Drama Club on Eleven Seven Music in 2006, Invisible Stars in 2012 and Black Is the New Black in 2015. Everclear received a Grammy nomination in 1998, has sold more than six million records worldwide and has placed a dozen singles in the top forty of mainstream rock, alternative and adult top forty formats. Alexakis is the only constant member; the current touring lineup pairs him with guitarist Davey French, bassist Freddy Herrera and drummer Brian Nolan. He released a solo album, Sun Songs, in October 2019. A thirtieth-anniversary deluxe edition of Sparkle and Fade accompanied a 2025 anniversary tour with Local H and Sponge, and the band extended the anniversary run into 2026 with a career-spanning set, followed by The Lucky 7 tour alongside American Hi-Fi. Alexakis has said he spent months writing a new Everclear record in response to the political and social climate, with recording set for early in the year.
