Eric Roberson is an American rhythm and blues and soul singer, songwriter and producer, born September 27, 1973 in Rahway, New Jersey, and sometimes billed as Erro. He attended Rahway High School and studied musical theatre at Howard University in Washington, D.C., releasing his first single, The Moon, through Warner Bros. Records in 1994. When that major-label relationship ended he moved behind the scenes, writing and singing on records for Will Smith, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Vivian Green, Dwele, Gina Thompson and Robert Glasper, and working closely with the Philadelphia circle around DJ Jazzy Jeff. Roberson returned as a recording artist on his own terms with The Esoteric Movement in 2001, issued through his own Blue Erro Soul label, and has stayed independent ever since, which made him a reference point for the early-2000s independent soul scene. His 2009 album Music Fan First produced two Grammy nominations for Best Urban/Alternative Performance, for A Tale of Two in 2010 and Still in 2011. The Box reached number eight on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart in 2014, and later releases include Lessons in 2022, his seventeenth studio album, and Beautifully All Over the Place in 2025. He has won several SoulTracks Readers' Choice awards, among them Male Vocalist of the Year in 2006, 2009 and 2022. In 2019 Roberson joined the faculty of Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he teaches songwriting and the business side of music. He tours regularly as a headliner in theaters and listening rooms, performing with a live band, and his catalogue sits between traditional soul songwriting and the looser, hip-hop-informed production he built with his Philadelphia collaborators.
