Ecca Vandal is a singer, songwriter and rapper based in Melbourne, Australia. She was born in Louis Trichardt, South Africa, to Sri Lankan Tamil parents who had arrived there as refugees, and moved to Australia as a child. She studied jazz at the Victorian College of the Arts as part of a Bachelor of Creative Arts, and the result is a style that draws on gospel, soul, hip hop, 1990s R&B and jazz as much as on punk, electronic music and alternative rock, with rapped verses and sung hooks used interchangeably. Working under the Ecca Vandal name since 2013, she issued early singles through Poison City Records, released the End of Time EP in 2016 on Dew Process and her self-titled debut album in 2017 on Dew Process and Island Records, which NME rated four out of five. Her second album, Looking for People to Unfollow, followed in May 2026 on Loma Vista Recordings and reached number 72 on the Australian albums chart. Her long-running creative collaborator is Richie Buxton, who is also her partner. She has supported Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes in 2017, Incubus in 2018 and Limp Bizkit in 2025, and has performed at Splendour in the Grass, Download, Reading and Leeds and Coachella. She was nominated at the National Live Music Awards in 2018 and the J Awards in 2025, and shortlisted for an APRA Music Award in 2026.
