Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel is the band of American guitarist and singer-songwriter Duane Betts, born April 16, 1978 in Sarasota, Florida to Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts and named for Duane Allman. He started on drums, switched to guitar at twelve, sat in with the Allman Brothers at sixteen at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheatre in Vail, Colorado in June 1994, and played Woodstock '94. He led the roots-rock group Backbone69 in the late 1990s, spent the early 2000s in the Atlantic-signed band Whitestarr, toured with his father's Great Southern, joined Dawes as a touring guitarist in 2015, and in December 2018 co-founded the Allman Betts Band with Devon Allman, releasing Down to the River (2019) and Bless Your Heart (2020). His EP Sketches of American Music (2018) was produced by Steve Cropper and Marc Ford, and his debut solo album, Wild & Precious Life, came out in July 2023 on Royal Potato Family with guests including Derek Trucks, Marcus King and Nicki Bluhm. Palmetto Motel is guitarist and singer Johnny Stachela, bassist Pedro Arevalo, drummer Vince Fossett Jr. and organist Max Butler. Betts' second album, Isle of Hope, arrived on Sun Records in June 2026, his first for the label; it was produced by Dave Cobb, cut in five days, largely co-written with Stoll Vaughan, and made in the aftermath of Dickey Betts' death in 2024. Reviewers have singled out its instrumental passages and its movement between mourning and release. Live, the band plays roots rock and blues with twin-guitar lines and extended improvisation drawn from the Southern rock tradition Betts grew up inside, and has toured North America steadily through 2026, including a support run with The Outlaws.
