Don Omar, born William Omar Landron Rivera on February 10, 1978, is a Puerto Rican reggaeton singer, rapper and songwriter from Santurce, San Juan, widely referred to as the King of Reggaeton. Drawn early to Vico C and Brewley MC, he spent several years as an active member of a Protestant church before leaving it to pursue music, first performing in San Juan clubs alongside DJ Eliel, appearing on compilations produced by Luny Tunes and Noriega, and singing backup for the duo Hector & Tito. His 2003 debut The Last Don sold more than 400,000 copies in the United States and was certified gold. King of Kings followed in 2006 and entered the Billboard 200 at number seven, at the time the highest position a reggaeton album had reached on that chart, led by the single Angelito. Later albums include iDon (2009), Meet the Orphans (2010) and its sequel MTO2: New Generation (2012), The Last Don 2 (2015), The Last Album (2019) and Forever King (2023), released across the Orfanato, VI Music, Machete and Universal Latino labels. His best-known international record is Danza Kuduro, a 2010 collaboration with the French-Portuguese singer Lucenzo that set a 2011 Guinness World Record as the most-viewed Spanish-language video on YouTube. He has won two Latin Grammy Awards from thirteen nominations and seventeen Billboard Latin Music Awards, and reporting places his worldwide sales at roughly 70 million records. He also played Rico Santos in four Fast & Furious films between 2009 and 2021. Don Omar announced his retirement in 2017 and returned in 2019 with the single Ramayama, featuring Farruko; he had earlier co-headlined The Kingdom Tour with Daddy Yankee in 2015 and 2016 after a long-running public rivalry. He disclosed a cancer diagnosis in June 2024 and reported shortly afterward that he was cancer-free. His current touring cycle is billed as The Last King World Tour.
