Diamond Rio is a country band based in Nashville, Tennessee, whose origins trace to 1982 and a house band at the Opryland USA theme park that performed first as the Grizzly River Boys and then as the Tennessee River Boys. The group took the name Diamond Rio at the end of the decade and signed with Arista Nashville in 1990. Its debut single, Meet in the Middle, reached number one in 1991, making Diamond Rio the first country group to top the chart with a first release. Four more singles followed it to number one on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart: How Your Love Makes Me Feel (1997), One More Day (2001), Beautiful Mess (2002) and I Believe (2003). The band has placed roughly twenty singles in the country top ten and reports album sales above 6.8 million. Diamond Rio has won four Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year awards and two from the Academy of Country Music, and after fourteen Grammy nominations took the award for the Christian country album The Reason. The members were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1998, and released the independent studio album I Made It in 2015. Longtime mandolinist and harmony singer Gene Johnson and drummer Brian Prout retired in 2022 after more than three decades, the group's first personnel change in over thirty years. The current lineup is Marty Roe on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jimmy Olander on lead guitar and banjo, Dan Truman on keyboards, Dana Williams on bass and vocals, Carson McKee on fiddle and harmony vocals, and Micah Schweinsberg on drums; McKee is the first woman to join the band. Diamond Rio has long supported Big Brothers Big Sisters and received the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award.
