David Cross

David Cross is an American stand-up comedian, actor and writer, born April 4, 1964 in Roswell, Georgia. His family moved frequently through Florida, New York and Connecticut before resettling in Georgia, and he began performing stand-up at around seventeen. After high school in Atlanta he spent time in New York and then Boston, where he attended Emerson College, joined a sketch group and met John Ennis, working the Boston comedy circuit from the mid-1980s into the early 1990s before relocating to Los Angeles. He joined the writing staff of The Ben Stiller Show near the end of its run and shared the 1993 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. With Bob Odenkirk he co-created, wrote and starred in the HBO sketch series Mr. Show with Bob and David, thirty episodes between 1995 and 1998 that drew three Emmy writing nominations; the pair reunited for the Netflix series W/ Bob & David in 2015. Cross played Tobias Funke across 78 episodes of Arrested Development for Fox and later Netflix, and created and starred in the black comedy The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, eighteen episodes for Channel 4 in Britain and IFC in the United States. His film work includes Men in Black and its sequel, Crane in the Kung Fu Panda films, Megamind, and Ian Hawke in the three Alvin and the Chipmunks features. His stand-up records long, politically pointed sets, released as Shut Up You Fucking Baby! (2002), It's Not Funny (2004), Bigger and Blackerer (2010), Making America Great Again (2016), Oh, Come On (2019), I'm from the Future (2022) and Worst Daddy in the World (2024). He has also published the books I Drink for a Reason (2009) and Hollywood Said No! (2013), and continues to tour theatres and performing arts centres.
