Danish String Quartet

The Danish String Quartet is a chamber ensemble that made its debut at the Copenhagen Summer Festival in 2002. Violinists Rune Tonsgaard Sorensen and Frederik Oland and violist Asbjorn Norgaard first met as children at a Danish music summer camp and formed the group while studying at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen; Norwegian cellist Fredrik Schoyen Sjolin joined in 2008. The quartet pairs classical repertoire with arrangements of Nordic folk music, records for ECM Records, and was named Musical America's Ensemble of the Year for 2020.
