Dandelion Lakewood's Bowl of Dust & Co.
punk rock · folk
Dandelion Lakewood's Bowl of Dust & Co. is a Kansas City, Missouri folk project led by Dandelion Lakewood, who performs as a self-described wandering bard troubadour. Recordings are issued through the Dowager Records imprint and range from full-band acoustic songs to solo improvisation and drone. The first, Sour Mash, appeared in January 2012 and was recorded largely live at Rumble Arts Center, with Lakewood on guitar and vocals, Brian Lewis-Jones on trombone, donkey jaw and vocals, Johnny D on upright bass and Kyle Drouin on drums; it is tagged variously as anti-folk, experimental, psychedelic and satire. Erdgeist followed in June 2012, a duo record with the Humminbird issued on hand-labeled CD-R, and Noble Creatures arrived that September as a split release with the same collaborator, also featuring Sophie Creutz, Mimi Wallman and Braden Coucher. Fox with Horns and Antlers (2013) divides between raw folk songs and acoustic drone experiments, and By Myself (2016) is a solo record whose first half is psychedelic folk and pop and whose second is meditative synthesizer drone. Later entries in the catalog include Two Noisy Amps (2026), a set of live guitar improvisations recorded in stereo through effects and two amplifiers and released on artist-dubbed cassette, and The Saga of Ms. Sparkles with Rainbow Rising. Singles reach further afield still, into Turkish and Albanian material and a session recorded with Chicago Park District kids. Lakewood plays around Kansas City and the wider Midwest.
