Courtney Patton is an Americana, country and folk singer-songwriter from Stephenville, Texas, whose soulful writing draws on classic country and the confessional side of the singer-songwriter tradition; her named influences include Merle Haggard, Don Williams, Joni Mitchell and Carole King. She released her debut album Triggering a Flood in 2013, followed by So This Is Life in 2015, What It's Like to Fly Alone in February 2018 and Electrostatic on October 7, 2022, the last recorded at The Finishing School in Austin and fuller in arrangement than her earlier, sparer records. In 2016 she made the duet album Something Together with fellow Texas songwriter Jason Eady, to whom she was married for twelve years and with whom she toured extensively. The two announced their separation in May 2024 and divorced that year, saying they had been apart for about a year by the time of the announcement and that they remained friends. Her most recent album, Carry You With Me, was released in late January 2025 with a launch performance at Mile 0 Fest in Key West, Florida. Its ten songs, written or co-written by Patton, were made almost entirely across the public end of that marriage, and reviewers treated the record as a plainspoken account of the split rather than a settling of scores. Much of her recent material comes out of a prompt-based songwriting group she has taken part in since 2020. Rolling Stone has written that listeners feel whatever Patton is working through in a song, whether pain, defiance or dark humor, and Saving Country Music has singled out her poetry, insight and delivery. She performs both solo and with a band, playing Texas dancehalls, listening rooms and roots festivals.
