Cordovas

americana · roots · rock

Cordovas is an Americana and roots-rock band built around songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman and guitarist and vocalist Lucca Soria, splitting its time between a farm outside Nashville, Tennessee and the artist community of Todos Santos in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The harmony-driven group cites The Band, the Grateful Dead, Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Allman Brothers Band among its touchstones and rounds out the core duo with a rotating cast of collaborators. Firstman came to the project after a solo career that included the Atlantic Records album The War of Women in 2003 and a stint leading the house band on Last Call with Carson Daly; he began assembling Cordovas in East Nashville in the early 2010s, and the group took its present shape when Soria joined. Its albums include That Santa Fe Channel (2018), Destiny Hotel (2020) and The Rose of Aces (2023), all issued by ATO Records, the last of them featuring vocals and guitar from producer Cory Hanson. The band's fifth album, Back to Life, was released on January 30, 2026 by Yep Roc Records; it was produced and mixed by Rick Parker, engineered with Matt Stager, and features saxophonist and composer Kamasi Washington as a guest on the track Wings, alongside contributions from Jon Loyd, Chris Powell and pedal steel player Smith Curry. Songs including Higher Every Time, Lost at Sea, Step Outside and the title track pair loose grooves with close vocal harmony. Cordovas has opened for Sheryl Crow and Willie Nelson, has been covered by Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR and American Songwriter, and tours steadily through American listening rooms and roots clubs, treating extended improvisation as a normal part of the set.
