Chanpan
electronic · pop · alternative pop
Chanpan is a New York City pop trio made up of Grace Dumdaw and the identical twins Lance and Matthew Tran, who describe themselves as an Asian American band and work in a mix of dance pop, electronic production and jazz-inflected soul. They name PinkPantheress, Hiatus Kaiyote and NewJeans as touchstones, and their releases carry tags spanning alternative pop, drum and bass and Brit pop. The group introduced itself with the double single air ride and attack in July 2024, a four-track release that also carried ooweeooweeoo and jungle, the last a collaboration with Ladji Mouflet; a remix edition followed. The seven-track EP endlessly arrived on 25 June 2025, running from Liquid Iron and the title track through Lost & Confused, Luigi's Mansione and Striking Vipers to Gaia, which features The Spirit of New Orleans Gospel Choir, and closing on the track titled with a smiley face. It too was reissued in a remix edition. A second seven-track set, autogratis, followed exactly a year later on 25 June 2026, opening with jesus in china (overflow) and taking in confessions part iii, i got a gun, romantic, los angeles, driving away and buzzin. Standalone singles include election year, later reworked as election year (ladji flip). The trio self-releases through Bandcamp and the streaming services, handles its own booking inquiries, and keeps an active presence on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and SoundCloud. Its touring has taken it well beyond New York, including a Denver date at Globe Hall.
