Cavalier is a Brooklyn-born, New Orleans-based rapper and producer working in underground and experimental hip hop. He built his catalogue through a long run of self-directed releases, beginning with the Lemonade EP and its Doro Wat maxi single and continuing through Lemonade REDUX and Private Stock. A substantial part of his output is collaborative: he made the two Death Tape records, Black Cottonwood and We Gon' Need Each Other, with Quelle Chris, along with the single Shining Brighter featuring Pink Siifu and Denmark Vessey. In 2024 he released the solo album Different Type Time, characterised by hazy production and winding rhyme patterns, and CINE, a full-length made with the producer Child Actor. His 2026 album Bring Back Weed Spots runs ten tracks on Sav Cav Music and Old Soul Music, produced largely by ahwlee with Quelle Chris handling the Weed Gentrification flip, mixed and mastered by Mark Swarvy, and recorded across Philadelphia, Baltimore, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and New Orleans. Its guest list includes lojii, Kam DeLa, Quelle Chris, Gordy, Kelly Moonstone, Aseer The Duke Tiers, Celina Cordoba El and GOODNEWSBAS, with additional vocals from TreZure Empire and Sienna Pinderhughes; Cavalier made the cover art himself. The record's subject matter runs through nostalgia for Brooklyn corner culture, the commodification that followed cannabis legalisation, and questions of community and trust. Critics have singled out his layered delivery and intricate wordplay over smoky, jazz-inflected production.
