Caroline Spence is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter working in Americana, folk and folk-pop. Her studio albums are Somehow (2015), Spades & Roses (2017), Mint Condition (2019), True North (2022) and Heart Go Wild (2025); the middle records were issued by Rounder Records, while Heart Go Wild came out independently and was co-produced by Spence with Mark Campbell and Peter Groenwald. She has also put out shorter releases between albums, including the 2023 EP Perennial and a deluxe edition of True North. Her records have drawn guest vocals from Emmylou Harris, Matt Berninger of The National, Sarah Jarosz and Lori McKenna. She works as a songwriter for other artists as well, with credits for Lucie Silvas, Andrew Combs, Sierra Hull, Fancy Hagood and Clare Bowen. As a touring act she has opened for Tyler Childers, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Hayes Carll, John Moreland, Madi Diaz and American Aquarium, and headlines her own runs in the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. Her catalogue has passed eighty million streams, and her songs have been licensed to television series on ABC, NBC, Fox and Apple TV as well as to the feature film Lilly, based on the story of equal-pay campaigner Lilly Ledbetter. Her albums have been covered by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and NPR. Her own notes frame Heart Go Wild as a set of folk-pop songs about personal liberation and making one's own choices in one's own time, a record she describes as feeling like an opening chapter despite arriving five albums into her career.
