Breadbox

Breadbox is a Jerry Garcia Band tribute act based in Denver, Colorado, formed in 2021. The group assembles working players from established Colorado jam bands: keyboardist and organist Tyler Adams comes from The Jauntee, guitarist Patrick Harvey from Cycles, drummer Kirk Larson from The Magic Beans and bassist Zac Flynn from Eminence Ensemble, rounded out by Phil Jude on guitar and vocals and by Heather Olson and Miranda Rosalie on vocals. That two-singer front line is central to the band's approach. Rather than reproducing a single period of the Garcia Band, Breadbox builds setlists that move across the different eras of the JGB catalogue and adds outside material the members judge Garcia himself would have taken up, leaning on full vocal harmonies and long, exploratory instrumental passages. The source repertoire is itself distinct from the Grateful Dead's: the Jerry Garcia Band was Garcia's long-running project outside the Dead, mixing his own songs with soul, gospel, reggae and Bob Dylan covers, which gives the tribute a songbook of its own to work from. Breadbox has no studio releases and exists as a live proposition. It works the Colorado Front Range circuit, with appearances at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom and Cervantes' Other Side in Denver, Ophelia's Electric Soapbox, the Fox Theatre in Boulder, the Old Town Pub in Steamboat Springs and outdoor series such as New Terrain Brewing's Music by the Mesa in Golden, alongside brewery and taproom rooms around the metro including Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton and Burndown in Denver. The band frequently shares bills with other Colorado tribute projects, among them the John Prine tribute Illegal Smile and Tumbledown Shack.
