Bobby Bare Jr.

alternative country · americana · rock

Bobby Bare Jr. is a Nashville-born singer-songwriter working in Americana, alternative country and rock, and the son of country singer Bobby Bare. Born in 1966, he was nominated for a Grammy at the age of eight for Daddy What If, a Shel Silverstein song he sang as a duet with his father; Silverstein's practice of turning poems into songs stayed with him, and his own writing leans on humor and pop-culture detail. In the 1990s he led the roots-rock band Bare Jr., which released Boo-Tay in 1998 and Brainwasher in 2000 for Immortal Records; its song You Blew Me Off appeared in the film Cruel Intentions and the band performed it on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He then recorded as Bobby Bare Jr.'s Young Criminals' Starvation League, a rotating cast drawn from Lambchop, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and My Morning Jacket, releasing Young Criminals' Starvation League in 2002, From the End of Your Leash in 2004 and The Longest Meow in 2006. A Storm, A Tree, My Mother's Head followed in 2010 through Thirty Tigers and Naked Albino, and Undefeated, cut with producer Mark Nevers and engineer Vance Powell, came out on Bloodshot Records in 2014. Since 2016 he has also played guitar in Guided by Voices, appearing on albums including August by Cake, Space Gun and Zeppelin Over China. Away from the road he books house concerts and sells a custom songwriting service through his own site, writing commissioned songs to order.
